Adel Abdessemed: Silent Warriors

Collection of Mamco, Genève, acquired thanks to BFAS, Blondeau Fine Art Installation view, Parasol unit. Photo © Stephen White

Until November 21st, 2010

Adel Abdessemed’s exhibition features sculptures and videos collectively creating a complex yet harmonious environment. Visitors have the possibility of several different journeys through the space. Spectacular for sure – Habibi, a 17-metre human skeleton hanging mid- air from its spine together with an aeroplane propeller.

In Enter the Circle Adel is suspended upside down from a helicopter hovering fifty feet above the ground. In motion he draws a complete circle with oil pastel onto a large panel.

Many situations created are based on deliberate acts which are testified with videos and photographs, and are later juxtaposed with a sculptural remainder from the action itself. Also labelled enfant terrible as he repeatedly challenges difficult subject matters and taboos within society and presents them as naked truth.

Born in 1971 in Algeria attended the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Lyon. He currently lives in New York. Anna Gavazzi

Adel Abdessemed: Silent Warriors will run until 21 November 2010

London Design Festival @ The Dock

Big fan of design? Pay a visit to The Dock this weekend. The London Design Festival has settled for a week, bringing together a host of talented designers. Don’t miss Tom Dixon’s Flash Factory, a mix of pop-up shops, showrooms and installations. Several products will be launched throughout the festival and even the restaurant, The Dock Kitchen, is relaunching with a new 80-seat interior.

Behind The Dock, in The White Building, visit the first London showroom of Moooi, try to win one of the many lamps exposed by Mydeco.com, or jump on a cool Brompton Bike and go for a ride along the canal.

A perfect Indian Summer Saturday!

The Dock is located 344 Ladbroke Grove. London W10 5BU. For more info visit Tom Dixon’s website.
The London Design Festival goes on until Sunday, September 26th.
