Adel Abdessemed: Silent Warriors

Until November 21st, 2010

Adel Abdessemed’s exhibition features sculptures and videos collectively creating a complex yet harmonious environment. Visitors have the possibility of several different journeys through the space. Spectacular for sure – Habibi, a 17-metre human skeleton hanging mid- air from its spine together with an aeroplane propeller.

In Enter the Circle Adel is suspended upside down from a helicopter hovering fifty feet above the ground. In motion he draws a complete circle with oil pastel onto a large panel.

Many situations created are based on deliberate acts which are testified with videos and photographs, and are later juxtaposed with a sculptural remainder from the action itself. Also labelled enfant terrible as he repeatedly challenges difficult subject matters and taboos within society and presents them as naked truth.

Born in 1971 in Algeria attended the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Lyon. He currently lives in New York. Anna Gavazzi
